Kingsolver Says, I Say. . .
"Fashion nearly wrecked my life."
-Barbara Kingsolver
Kingsolver never had the new fashions, or what was in style, instead she got her cousin's hand-me-downs. Sure, they were in style a few years ago, but they definitely aren't anymore. And just because she didn't have the latest fashions, she was treated differently, especially in high school.
In high school today, people who hang out with each other tend to dress the same. Whatever your style is may just decide who you hang out with. This may turn out to be a good thing, or a bad thing. But for Kingsolver, it was definitely a bad thing.
I can see how fashion could have nearly wrecked Kingsolver's life. People today still judge people for what they wear, and the same thing probably happened to Kingsolver when she was in school. If someone is not wearing the right kind of clothes, their life may be ruined. Because of people making fun of each other for what they wear, some schools have uniforms for their students.
But I can see why Kingsolver claimed that fashion nearly wrecked her life, and I bet she's not the only person that feels this way. People should never be judged on what the wear though, but instead their personality.
